Carers Rights Day is about raising awareness of the rights the UK’s 5.7 million unpaid carers are entitled to, and to help them get the support they need and the recognition they deserve. The theme for this year’s campaign is helping carers recognise the rights they have.

We’re inviting you to join us for Carers Oxfordshire’s Carers Rights Day Celebration, held online, with guest speakers from support organisations across Oxfordshire. Join us for the whole day or just pop in when you can! There will be short breaks between each speaker.

10:00 am – Andrew Lane, Chair of Trustees for Carers Oxfordshire
Opening the event, with a warm welcome and introduction to Carers Oxfordshire

10:15 am – Rachel Stafford, Solicitor from Rachel Stafford Legal Services
Joins us for a talk on the Power of Attorney

11:30 am – Rachel Boland (Age UK Oxfordshire) – older peoples benefits
A brief overview of the main welfare benefits for older people, covering Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and how Carers Allowance is affected by the State Pension.

12:45 pm – Chris (Rethink) discusses his role as a parent carer
“SEND Support in crisis” A general discussion about the problems currently with SEND support in England. There will be some perspective on how the situation has got to where it is, what is proposed to change in the future, and what pieces of advice could be helpful while we push for reform.

2:00 pm – Hear from Disability Employment Advisers
Find out more about the role of Disability Employment Advisers and how they can support carers living with a health condition or disability which affects their ability to work.

3:15 pm –  Fiona and Julie (Carers Oxfordshire) talk carers rights
As a carer, you have certain rights that can help your life become easier. You may have the right to receive financial support, help with your own health and wellbeing, and assistance from social services. You can find out more about your rights at our online information session, whilst sharing your own experiences.

4:00 pm – Juliet Cocks, Carers Oxfordshire
