Have your say: Supporting safer mental health discharge for black communities

Researchers at The University of Manchester are inviting carers to take part in an online workshop exploring how mental health services can better support people during hospital discharge. The research places particular emphasis on improving experiences for people from Black heritage communities, and carers’ voices are essential to shaping more inclusive and culturally responsive care.
The two‑hour workshop will take place online via Microsoft Teams between 23 April and 8 May 2026, with a £60 thank‑you payment for participants’ time. The session is led by Dr Natasha Tyler and supported by facilitators with lived experience, including carers. Questions will be shared in advance so participants can feel prepared and confident to contribute.
This opportunity may be of interest to carers who have supported someone through adult inpatient mental health services or the discharge process, and who want to use their experience to help improve future support.
Carers can register their interest by clicking the button below. Or for further information, contact Dr Natasha Tyler at The University of Manchester.
