Isabel Scrivener: Carers Adviser

Isabel is a Carers Adviser for the Vale of White Horse, supporting unpaid carers across the area she now calls home. With a background in paramedic science and community work, she brings both professional skill and genuine compassion to her role, helping carers feel heard, supported and valued. Isabel shares her story below:
“I joined Carers Oxfordshire in 2025 after completing my Paramedic Science degree at Oxford Brookes University. During my studies, I often met carers — in hospitals, in the community, and within families — and saw just how vital their role is. That experience really stayed with me.
Before that, I worked with Age UK Cornwall, where I grew up. I was part of the Hospital to Home service, supporting older people as they adjusted to life back at home after a hospital stay. That was my first real experience of seeing how much difference a bit of practical help can make.
I’ve always been a people person — I love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and finding out what matters most to them. That’s definitely the best part of my job.
I’m still getting to know the Vale, but I’m really enjoying learning about the local community. It’s such a lovely area, and everyone I’ve met so far has been so welcoming.
My advice to any carer who might be struggling would be: talk to someone. It could be a friend, another carer, or one of us here at Carers Oxfordshire. You don’t have to go through things on your own — there’s always someone who will listen and understand.”
Isabel works full-time, Monday to Friday.
