Active Oxfordshire is a local charity dedicated to fighting inactivity and tackling inequality. They work with children and young people who are facing barriers to activity, adults with long-term health conditions and older people. Through partners, they run and support a wide range of programmes to help Oxfordshire residents move more and live healthy, active lives.
Active Oxfordshire runs two programmes which can benefit carers and their families, YouMove and Move together.
YouMove provides free and low-cost activities for families who either have children on benefit-related free school meals or are vulnerable in other ways. The activities include swimming, badminton, tennis, roller skating, dance classes and so much more. It’s quick and easy to sign up. Families will get lots of support from an Activator in each District who will signpost them to the activities available.
Move Together is for adults with long-term health conditions that prevent them from being active. It started in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to help people who were shielding and particularly isolated and now provides personalised support to hundreds of people living with health conditions. By signing up to Move Together, residents can benefit from personalised support from a coordinator in each district to help each person move more in a way that works for them – including advice and information about local groups and health walks, activity packs and resources to use at home.
Active Oxfordshire also coordinates the GO Active countywide brand, which hosts a wide range of activities including local health walks, cycle routes, activities taking place in your area and advice on how to get started with moving more. You can also sign up to Move Together and YouMove via the GO Active website.
