‘Occupations & Interruptions’
February 7, 2022 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
A series of free online poetry workshops for carers in Oxfordshire inspired by the work and life of Victorian poet Christina Rossetti. Organized in collaboration with Carers Oxfordshire and the Oxford Brookes University Poetry Centre, they will be led by poet Dr Sarah Hesketh and Rossetti expert Dr Dinah Roe.
Did you know that Christina Rossetti was not only one of England’s greatest poets, but that she was also a carer for much of her life? You are warmly invited to join us in Feb & March 2022. Using Christina Rossetti’s Time Flies: A Reading Diary (1885), written while she was a full-time carer for her aunts and mother, we will explore the connections between creativity and caring, and also discuss the challenges. Participants will record their thoughts and experiences in their own diaries and produce a poem. Poems will be collected in an downloadable anthology which will be published (with permission) on the Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre website, in order to celebrate and amplify the voices of carers.
Workshops will take place online on four Mondays from 2-3.30 pm in February and March 2022. Dates: 7 & 9 Feb; 1 & 15 March.
