Liz Thomas: Carers Adviser
Liz is our Carer Adviser for South Oxfordshire (including Wallingford, Benson, Watlington, Sonning Common, Henley, Didcot, Chinnor, Wheatley, Thame and Goring).
Liz joined Carers Oxfordshire in May 2022 after retiring from nursing for 37 years. She began her nursing career as a rehabilitation nurse at Radcliffe Infirmary and later worked in complex medicine at The John Radcliffe. Her love for caring stemmed from her career as a nurse, and she’s found the skills she gained have helped her as a Carer Adviser.
She was also a carer from a young age, looking after her mum and later her dad. “I’ve been caring all my life since I was old enough to look after my parents. I helped around the house with cooking, cleaning, washing, shopping.”
Throughout her career, she worked with older people and enjoyed it. She has excellent knowledge of dementia and relaunched the Geratology Dementia Specialist Nurse role at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
In her spare time, Liz volunteers through her church group to help support the charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) with setup for events that support people in the community with financial troubles. Many carers attend these events.
“I’m here as a sounding block to listen, support and signpost. It’s a privilege to be part of people’s lives and make a difference through sharing my knowledge and information.”
Liz works 9 am – 5 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
