Mel Wilkinson: Adviser Team Manager
Mel started working at Carers Oxfordshire in June 2011, just after the service began. She was originally an Outreach Worker for North Oxfordshire, then became a Coordinator and is now the Adviser Team Manager. Before working for us she worked in health supporting people in the community.
As well as managing our team of advisers, she runs our Locality Hub meetings. These meetings bring together our Adviser and Outreach teams with support workers from Rethink (our partner charity). They look at local events, carer groups, and other things happening in the community. The hub meetings support more complex carer cases. Mel works closely with Fiona, our Outreach Team Manager, to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Mel has personal experience of caring “I took the job at the time my mum had recently started caring for my dad.” She supported her mum for five years in caring for her dad and cared for her grandma for seven years.
“Carers Oxfordshire is an amazing team. They are a lovely, kind bunch to work with. Everyone is passionate about what they do, and you really feel how important it is to represent carers.”
She works Wednesday and Thursday 8.30 am – 5 pm, and Friday 9 am – 4.30 pm.
