Moira Collier: Outreach Worker

Moira joined Carers Oxfordshire in May 2021 as an Outreach Worker for North Oxfordshire (Including Banbury, Deddington and Finmere).

She is a qualified science teacher and taught for many years. She also qualified and worked as a SENDCO in a secure training centre and as part of her role worked with young carers. “I see my role now as a different way to support people. I work with a lot of parent carers and drawing on my SENDCO experience helps me understand their situations.”

Moira is very passionate about working with carers. “I know I am genuinely making a difference with this job. I can tell by how people react towards me. There’s a lot of carers out there that didn’t think there was anyone who would understand or be able to do anything to help them. I know with the service we offer I can.”

Moira loves working with carers of all ages and situations. She has personal experience of juggling caring and childcare and therefore really understands how busy a parent carer’s life can be.

“I took this job because I have an understanding of what carers are going through and therefore knew I could do it well. It’s different to teaching but it’s another way of caring and supporting people. I’m still looking after people, educating them and helping them. I love what I do.”

Moira works Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9 am to 5pm and Wednesdays 9 am to 1.30 pm.
