Becci Cox: Outreach Worker
Becci joined us in May 2021 as an Outreach Worker for Oxford City. She runs our monthly carers support group in Barracks Lane Community Garden. Most of her time is spent doing carer assessments and answering CarersLine. She also attends other carer support groups in Oxford City including a regular one for Dementia Oxfordshire.
In the past, she worked at a care home for five years which gave her a hands-on experience of caring. During this time, she worked with people with dementia.
She’s also cared for family members including someone with mental health issues “I make sure they are taking care of themselves.” She has experience with autism through family and volunteering. She volunteers as a Guides leader and looks after several children on the spectrum. She’s also head of her child’s school PTA which involves making provisions for SEND children at events. She has friends who are parents of SEND children “They point me in the direction of information, and I point them in the direction of Carers Oxfordshire”.
At Carers Oxfordshire Becci enjoys “Practical help, actually being able to do something. You can’t wave a magic wand and make all their problems go away but you can get them a little break. You can give them something tangible which helps. I like helping people and doing something useful. I am contributing to society and that’s nice.”
Becci works 9 am – 5 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and Tuesday and Friday she works 9 am – 1.30 pm.
